US President Donald Trump believes the war with Iran will end soon, expecting the resumption of peace talks with the aim of reaching an agreement by the end of April. In television remarks, he said that the possibility of reaching a deal before the visit of King Charles III of the UK to Washington (from April 27 to April 30) remains on the table. He also said he exchanged messages with Chinese President Xi Jinping in parallel with preparations for a forthcoming meeting between them, stressing that fluctuations in oil prices and developments in the energy market will not affect the course of the meeting.
Economically, Trump believes the war will negatively affect the growth rate of the US economy during the period of conflict, adding that the impact is likely to be temporary and could last for weeks before the economy returns to its recovery path. He also expected a significant drop in oil prices before the midterm elections. He further said that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that Iran is seeking to reach a peace agreement, which leads him to believe that the war is nearing its end.
