The U.S. Department of the Treasury is considering issuing a one-dollar coin featuring the image of President Donald Trump in preparation for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, according to officials announced on Friday.
In a post shared by Treasury Secretary Scott Bicen on the platform “X,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach presented preliminary drafts for the coin’s design, expressing his eagerness to share more details soon, following the end of the government shutdown that is hindering federal operations.
This move is based on a law passed by Congress in 2020 and signed by Trump during his first term, allowing the Treasury Department to issue one-dollar coins “with designs representing the 250th anniversary of independence.”
The law permits the minting of these coins for a one-year period starting from January 2026, and the preliminary drafts show a design for both sides: one side features a profile image of Trump, while the other shows the president raising his fist in front of the American flag, accompanied by the phrase “Fight, Fight, Fight.”
