Reports say one of the chips will be a memory-processing unit designed to work with Google’s TPU, while the second chip will be a new tensor-processing unit specifically built to run AI models.
Google is aiming to make its chips a practical alternative to the graphics-processing units (GPUs) widely used in the market from Nvidia.
Reports also note that TPUs are among the key drivers of growth in Google Cloud revenue, as the company tries to prove the value of its AI investments.
Reuters was unable to independently verify the information, and neither Google nor Marvell has commented. The reports suggest the design could be completed soon—possibly next year—before the chip is delivered for trial production.
