The Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Willie Walsh, warned of the possibility of some flights being cancelled in Europe due to a jet fuel shortage, starting in late May.
Walsh, as reported by Reuters, said that while efforts are underway to secure alternative supply sources, it is necessary for authorities to adopt clear, well-coordinated plans in case any rationing measures become necessary, including easing restrictions on takeoff and landing times.
The warning comes after Fatih Birol, the director of the International Energy Agency, previously said that Europe has only about six weeks to avoid a severe jet fuel shortage, warning that flight cancellations could become imminent if oil supplies from the Middle East are not resumed in the coming weeks.
